SAVORY SAUSAGES WITH MASHED POTATOES AND CARAMELIZED ONION GRAVY
Ingredients:
Sausages & Mashed Potatoes:
1 1/2 lbs pork sausages (or your favorite variety)
4 large russet potatoes, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup heavy cream
4 tbsp butter
Salt and pepper, to taste
Caramelized Onion Gravy:
2 large onions, thinly sliced
3 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp sugar
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
Sausages:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausages for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until browned and cooked through. Set aside and keep warm.
Mashed Potatoes:
Place the chopped potatoes in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes and return to the pot. Add heavy cream, butter, and salt and pepper.
Mash until smooth and creamy. Cover and keep warm.
Caramelized Onion Gravy:
In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.
Add the sugar, cooking for another minute to enhance caramelization.
Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Gradually whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
Serve:
Plate the sausages over a bed of creamy mashed potatoes and generously drizzle with caramelized onion gravy.
Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy!
Tips:
For a richer gravy, add a splash of red wine while cooking the onions.
Serve with steamed green beans or peas for a classic pairing.
