The Ultimate Philly Cheesesteak Recipe
Ingredients:😋
For the Cheesesteak:
1 1/2 pounds ribeye steak, thinly sliced (or skirt steak for an alternative)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 large bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional, for added flavor)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
4 hoagie rolls or soft sub rolls (preferably Amoroso rolls for authenticity)
8 slices provolone cheese (or 4 slices American cheese, depending on preference)
1 tablespoon butter (for toasting the rolls)
For the Optional Garnishes:
Sautéed mushrooms
Jalapeños (for a spicy kick)
Hot sauce (optional, for extra heat)
Mayonnaise or ketchup (optional)
Instructions:😋
1. Prepare the Steak:
Freeze the ribeye steak for 30-45 minutes to make it easier to slice thinly.
Once partially frozen, use a sharp knife to slice the steak as thinly as possible, against the grain. The thinner the slices, the better!
2. Sauté Onions and Peppers:
In a large skillet or cast iron pan, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Add the sliced onions (and bell peppers, if using) to the skillet. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and caramelized. Remove from the pan and set aside.
3. Cook the Steak:
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Add the sliced steak to the pan, seasoning with a bit of salt and pepper. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, or until the steak is cooked through and slightly browned.
Drizzle Worcestershire sauce over the steak, stirring to combine. If you like extra flavor, you can add some hot sauce or other seasonings at this point.
4. Toast the Rolls:
While the steak is cooking, slice the hoagie rolls in half and spread a thin layer of butter on the inside of each roll.
Place the rolls, butter side down, on a separate skillet over medium heat. Toast until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
5. Combine the Steak, Onions, and Cheese:
Once the steak is cooked, add the sautéed onions and peppers back to the skillet, mixing everything together.
Lay the slices of provolone cheese (or American cheese) over the steak mixture. Allow it to melt and get gooey, about 1-2 minutes.
6. Assemble the Philly Cheesesteaks:
Scoop the cheesy steak mixture into the toasted hoagie rolls. For an extra touch, you can add sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños, or a spread of mayonnaise or ketchup, depending on your taste.😋😋
