Ingredients
4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
2 cups heavy cream
2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or gruyere)
1 onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon fresh thyme (optional)
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Lightly grease a baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom.
3. Top the potatoes with half of the sliced onions and the minced garlic.
4. Sprinkle generously with salt, pepper, and half of your cheese.
5. Pour half of the heavy cream evenly over the layer.
6. Repeat the layering: add the remaining potatoes, onions, garlic, cheese, and then pour over the rest of the cream.
7. Dot the top with bits of butter and, if you like, a sprinkle of fresh thyme.
8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and slide it into the oven. Bake for 45 minutes.
9. Remove the foil and let the potatoes bake uncovered for another 15-20 minutes, until beautifully golden and bubbling.
10. Give the dish a few minutes to cool before serving—it will make slicing and serving much easier. Enjoy every creamy, cheesy bite!
