steak with onions
Ingredients:
2 ribeye or sirloin steaks (about 1 inch thick)
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
1 tablespoon butter (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Steaks:
Season the steaks generously with salt and black pepper on both sides.
2. Cook the Steaks:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the steaks and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until your desired doneness is reached.
Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest on a plate, covered loosely with foil.
3. Cook the Onions:
In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium.
Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
If using balsamic vinegar, add it to the onions and cook for another minute, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
4. Finish and Serve:
If desired, stir in a tablespoon of butter for extra richness.
Slice the steaks against the grain and serve them topped with the caramelized onions.
Enjoy your steak with onions!
